Sixty-six year old Sen. Lindsey Graham doesn’t approve of the puppies yelping. A camera close-up during the State of the Union showed Graham mouthing what appeared to be, “Shut up” as Rep. Lauren Boebert, 35, (R-Colo.) made a vocal outburst to call attention to the 13 American service members killed during the Biden administrations disastrous exit from Afghanistan.
“You put them there! Thirteen of them!” Boebert yelled as Biden referred to “flag draped coffins” while talking about legislation to aid veterans exposed to toxins. Boebert’s comment proved to be the only mention of the terribly flawed and deadly U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan that anyone heard that night. Happening nearly six months ago, terribly corrupted news networks have all but forgotten it in an effort to sweep it from the collective American mind.
I’m sure many Americans found it refreshing that Boebert, only serving in the House a little over a year, spoke up to remind people who it was that was responsible for the Afghanistan failure and needless deaths. After all, that failure very well may have precipitated the invasion of Ukraine by letting Russian president Vladimir Putin, (and the rest of the world), see a weakened, miscalculating, and humiliated America. And that’s likely the very reason there wasn’t a whiff of it in the Tuesday night speech.
Wednesday night, Newsmax anchor Greg Kelley covered the Boebert story with screen graphics stating, “Rep. Lauren Boebert is a patriot” and “Saying what everyone was thinking.”
Liberal news outlets framed the congresswoman’s remarks as an insult to Biden’s purely conjectural assumptions about his son Beau’s death from cancer; remarks he didn’t make until after Boebert’s interjection.
Joining Lindsey Graham’s disdain for Boebert’s action were people like Dan O’Donnell, a conservative award-winning broadcaster from WISN Milwaukee. When asked about the incident O’Donnell said, “This isn’t British parliament where you can just yell stuff. Just as I thought that Nancy Pelosi tearing up Donald Trump’s State of the Union address…was the height of boorish behavior, this was inappropriate as well.”
I would argue things have changed. The American people are being pushed to the breaking point by the failures, lies and tyrannical actions of the Biden administration. On top of lockdowns, irrational and arguably unconstitutional vaccine and mask mandates, rising energy costs and numerous other calamities, what happened in Afghanistan may have just factored into what could easily become WWIII. It’s beyond unfair to expect regular middle class Americans, or their representatives in Congress, to follow Emily Post’s etiquette guidelines.
I am reminded of a somewhat obscure song from the 1980’s with the reprise, “Through my anger and my joy my tears and pain…life will never be the same as it was again.”
In my opinion, it will take courageous young patriots like Rep. Lauren Boebert, and many of them, to lead us out of this time of pain and into the new, yet necessarily different, life that awaits us.
